The Friends of the Terrebonne Public Library was organized in 1985 with a 501c3 classification. Its mission is to maintain an association of persons interested in libraries, to promote and stimulate interest in and participation in library usage by citizens of Terrebonne Parish, to focus public attention on the library, to accept and encourage gifts, endowments and bequests on behalf of the library, recognizing that the administration of the library is vested in the Board of Control, and to aid and assist it as it deems necessary in matters pertaining to the activities and programs of the library. Each year the organization hold several used book sales which generate funding for the library to purchase needed equipment and supplies for programs. The group is active in providing outstanding programming at the seven branch libraries for children of all ages. It also sponsors a variety of programs for adults ranging from exhibits and lectures to musical presentations. The Jubilee Jambalaya Writers’ Conference is one of its success stories because of the continued interest by the public and the far-reaching effect it has on South Louisiana for the past five years.
